Our Story

About 10 years ago our community lost its community newspaper—just like many other communities in our state and across the country. Over time our community became less cohesive. We no longer knew the candidates running for our local council. We were unable to communicate regarding City issues that concerned the budget, planning, and operations.

Last year there was finally enough inertia to bring together a group of citizens willing and able to put in the requisite time and effort to see if the community would really support a local newspaper. We are hoping that there will be sufficient interest in what this paper is initially and what it can be with community input and support. We are hopeful that you will have suggestions for stories, changes to the format, and be willing to even submit an article or two. We want this to be a community venture that supports all groups and parts of our City.

About Us

We are a small group of Roseville residents who have long wanted a newspaper in Roseville since the loss of The Roseville Review several years ago. Don Salverda, encouraged and nagged by his wife to get a newspaper started, held a meeting of many of the people he had encountered over his years as a public servant. From that initial meeting and several meetings following, a core group of five residents became the working group to launch a newspaper. During the ensuing months this small group established a name, direction, goal, website, domain name, mascot, and began the process of obtaining 501C3 status.

Last fall, the original core group became the Board of Roseville Reporter and serve in that capacity today.

Meet Rosie!

Meet Rosie, our paper’s ace reporter. Born Roscoe Gee Beak, Rosie was hatched in Roseville’s Central Park several summers ago. Following an unfortunate collision with a very clean pane of glass, Rosie was restored to health at the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. However, due to some lingering problems from his head injury and his love of consistently constant temperatures, freedom from predators, and abundant food, he decided to simply enjoy life in his spacious indoor habitat and look for work.

We are all grateful that he answered our advertisement seeking a “natty and attractive” journalist. While we will never know if Rosie’s love of journalism may be the result of his injuries, what we do know is that Rosie collects news from his own sources and writes crisp, direct articles intended to inform, and sometimes entertain. As to sources, he often says, “A little bird told me…”

Look for Rosie’s reports in upcoming issues!
