Saron Bekabil (2003-2026)

Saron Simera Bekabil of Maplewood, Minn. passed away on Thursday. She was 23.
Bekabil was born on Jan. 9, 2003, in Los Angeles and raised in Maplewood. From a young age, she showed a deep commitment to learning and a sincere desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
Bekabil graduated from Howard University in Washington, D.C. in fall 2024 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and double minors in chemistry and biology. She made the Dean’s List twice and served as President of the Ethiopian and Eritrean Student Association (EESA), where she fostered community, culture and connection among students.
Bekabil began graduate studies last fall at Emory University in Atlanta as a Rollins Pathways Scholar, continuing her journey toward becoming a physician dedicated to bridging public health, policy and advocacy to create a more just and effective healthcare system. Her ambition, intellect and passion for service inspired everyone around her.
Beyond her academic and professional achievements, Bekabil was a devoted daughter, sister, granddaughter and cousin who cherished her family deeply. She remained closely connected to loved ones, often traveling back home to visit family.
Bekabil’s life, though far too short, was defined by purpose, love, and a commitment to uplifting others. Her legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched, the dreams she inspired and the path she helped illuminate toward a more compassionate and equitable world.
Bekabil was preceded in death by her grandfather Dersonigne Aboye. She is survived by her parents Bekabil Tolassa & Hayme Mekuria and brother Jeremiah Bekabil.
Visitation 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 12 at Mueller-Bies Funeral Home — Roseville.
Funeral service at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 13 at Zion Evangelical Fellowship Church, 1632 Charles Avenue, St. Paul, Minn.
Interment at Roselawn Cemetery.
Harvey Boomer III (1944-2026)

Harvey A. Boomer III of Fridley, Minn. passed away peacefully on Thursday. He was 81.
Boomer was born on Aug. 20, 1944 in Little Falls, Minn., about two hours northwest of the Twin Cities. He played hockey for Mounds View High School in Arden Hills, Minn., where he later graduated. After attending St. Cloud State University, he worked most of his career at Twin City Hardware.
Boomer enjoyed the outdoors; fishing, hunting and golfing being some of his favorite activities. As he settled down later in life, he kept his mind sharp with games and puzzles. Even through his final days, his priority was to complete the crossword puzzle in the daily paper.
Boomer was preceded in death by his parents George Boomer, Sr. and Marcella Boomer (née Masog). He is survived by his wife Cindy, brothers Calvin (Lonna) and George, Jr. (Lori), sons Ryan (Sara) Gordon, Joshua, Grady (Heather) and Anthony “Tony” Boomer, his 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Visitation 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, May 9 at Mueller-Bies Funeral Home — Roseville, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m.
Jon Nelson (1954-2026)

Jon T. Nelson of Roseville, Minn. passed away on Friday. He was 71.
Nelson grew up in New Brighton, Minn. and graduated from Mounds View High School. He later worked as a painter at North Star Auto Body and Roseville Auto Body, and also worked as a maintenance man.
Nelson was an animal lover, and he loved to go ice fishing on Mille Lacs Lake. He was always willing help out. His pride and joy were his grandchildren, whom he truly loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents Duane and Corinne Nelson. He is survived by his daughter Alicia (Bill) Krieger, grandkids Toby, Lydia, Annah (Paul) and Jenna (Nate) and siblings Nancy Imbrone (Larry Wamstad), Scott (LeAnn) and Dan Nelson.
Memorial visitation from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 21 at Mueller-Bies Funeral Home — Roseville.
Owen Straumann (1976-2026)

Owen Matthew Straumann of Roseville passed way unexpectedly on Monday. He was 49.
Straumann was a private man with a big heart and would do anything for his family. He will be greatly missed.
Straumann was preceded in death by his father Francis Allie Straumann. He is survived by his mother Janet, sisters Deborah Grotjahn and Alison (Michael) McQuade and many nieces, great nieces and great nephews.
