Local girl’s lemonade stand raises money for Children’s Hospital

Roseville third-grade student’s lemonade and goods stand raises money for a good cause.

Over the summer, Amalia organized two lemonade stands with the help of her mother, Kate—one in Bloomington on June 27 and another in Roseville on July 14. This was the second year Amalia hosted lemonade stands to raise money for Children’s Hospital.

In addition to three types of lemonade and baked goods, Amalia added non-edible items this year, including lemon soap bars and sock-made stuffed animal kittens.

Amalia said the turnout was a success, which “feels amazing.”

“Seven of my teachers came,” she said. “I feel like the most popular girl in the neighborhood.”

In addition to her teachers, neighbors, community members and friends came out to support the cause, helping Amalia raise $2,362, she said.

It all started when a family friend of Amalia and Kate was diagnosed with neuroblastoma. Amalia wanted to help. She first cut and donated her hair and cooked meals, but she wanted to do more.

The idea of a lemonade stand for charity came from a group in Bloomington, but Amalia adapted it for her own cause, according to Kate. In the months leading up to summer 2024, Amalia read books on lemonade stands at the library and prepared for the sale.

Kate said Amalia was hands-on with the project, working on it every day after school and throughout the summer.

“It’s not something that we—her dad and I—were going to do for her while she sold it,” Kate said. “She was the one collecting raspberries, making the raspberry syrup for the lemonade, mixing lemonades and baking goods.”

Amalia plans to continue the lemonade business next summer to raise more money for charity and spread positivity in the community.

Editor’s note: The family asked that their last name not be published to protect their family’s privacy.
