Juan Q. Quitevis (1936-2026)

Juan Quentin Quitevis, known affectionately to all as “Nito,” of Shoreview, Minn. passed away peacefully on Monday. He was 89.

Quitevis graduated from St. Paul Central High School and was a longtime Shoreview resident, making his home on the shore of Lake Owasso. He was a state and national water ski champion and was inducted into the Minnesota Water Ski Association Hall of Fame.

Also a proud veteran, Quitevis served his country during the Korean War. His dedication to public service extended to his community— he served as a council member for the Shoreview City Council from 1992-1996 under Mayor Jim Chalmers.

Professionally, Quitevis spent many years as a dedicated truck driver. He was also an active member of the Filipino-American Society, proudly celebrating his Filipino heritage.

Quitevis was preceded in death by his beloved parents John Q. Quitevis and Cecile E. (Chapman) Quitevis, cherished daughter Maile Calder and grandsons Eric Quitevis and Blake Fredrickson.

He is survived by his loving daughters Coral (Mark) Wilkens and Liana (Brian) Land, son-in-law Brad Calder and sisters Lucena (Jim) Slaten and Carmen (Dave) Williams.

Quitevis was a devoted grandfather to Mark Wilkens, Kevin Wilkens, Brittany Suits, Kayla Badger, Kelby Land, Karisa Land, Bradley Calder, Brian Calder and Oceana Smith. He was also great-grandfather to 17 great-grandchildren.

Nito’s memory will be cherished by his family, friends and the many lives he touched through his service and competitive spirit.

Visitation 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, April 19 at Mueller-Bies Funeral Home in Roseville. Private interment and graveside memorial at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
