Elvine I. Brooks (1947-2026)

Elvine Icilda Livingstone Brooks, known to her family as “Jamaican Ice,” passed away on Friday. She was 79.
Brooks was born on June 12, 1947 in Scott’s Pass, a small village in the parish of Clarendon, Jamaica. After finishing secondary school, she was recruited to attend Minnesota Bible College in Minneapolis. She later transferred to the University of Minnesota and joined the Northwest Bell company during her final year. She built a distinguished career in telecommunications spanning over 30 years.
She married Darrell Brooks in 1967 and together they had three children.
Brooks was a woman of uncommon strength, radiant warmth and a million-dollar smile, whose life was a testament to what is possible when intelligence, grace and faith converge.
Brooks was preceded in death by her parents Hazel and Joseph and two older brothers Alston and Winston.
She is survived by her three children Angela (Duane) Baker, Christopher (Bobbi) and Kitty (Jack) Norton, 7 grandchildren David, Selah, Gabriel, Daniel, Lily, Mykah and Zoe, great-grandson Shiloh and a second great-grandchild whose arrival is eagerly anticipated in July 2026. She is also survived by her extended family in the United States, Jamaica and England, her beloved church family and the many lives she shaped across decades of faithful service.
Funeral service 11 a.m. Friday, May 22 at Roseville Covenant Church, 2865 Hamline Ave. N., Roseville, with visitation from 10-11 a.m. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery, Minneapolis.
Rita L. Hagen (1935-2026)

Rita Hagen of St. Paul, Minn. passed away on Monday. She was 90.
Hagen was born on May 21, 1935. She worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital for 26 years and made many friends there along the way. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the love of her life, and whenever she was around them, she would smile from ear-to-ear. She also loved chatting with her friends and going to Las Vegas.
Hagen was preceded in death by her beloved companion Terry Madden and grandson Jason. She is survived by her son Randy (Michele), daughter Sandy (Tim) Dircks, grandchildren, Jennifer (Chris) Ganser, Deja (Jordan) Jensen, Frankie Dircks, great-grandchildren Brooklyn (Dylan), Ethan, Zoey, Trey and Ford and great-great grandchildren Cam and Arya.
Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Friday, May 29 at The Church of St. Columba, 1327 Lafond Ave., St. Paul with visitation from 10-11 a.m. Private interment Calvary Cemetery.
William P. Jasper (1974-2026)

William Peter “Bill” Jasper of Roseville passed away unexpectedly on Monday. He was 52.
Jasper was born in Roseville on Jan. 11, 1974 to Pete and Jackie Jasper. He attended Roseville High School, where he was popular among his fellow students. He truly enjoyed his time playing hockey and varsity gymnastics, and he remained a lifelong, devoted fan of Minnesota sports. He graduated in 1992 and joined the U.S. Navy in 1993, serving until 1997.
He married the love of his life, Theresa, in 2002, and together they had two daughters, Sydney and Audrey. More than anything, he loved watching his daughters grow and succeed in all they did. His pride in them was evident to everyone who knew him.
Jasper loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, fishing, and hiking. His life was a tapestry woven with love, adventure and kindness.
Jasper was preceded in death by his mother. He is survived by his wife and their two daughters, his father Pete Jasper and special friend Claudia Doran, siblings Craig (Harriette), Laurie and Pam Jasper (Jake) and nieces and nephews Cole Jasper, Ella (Mark) Barto, Kylie (Josh) Lindquist, Zoe Hawthorne, Nico Grayson, Randy Mcaleese, Chaz Mcaleese, Nicholas Flesland, Jordan (Camille) Flesland, Brady Foss, Andrew Foss and Evan (Elaine) Foss.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 26, 2026 from 4-7 p.m. at Mueller-Bies Funeral Home — Roseville.
Visitation will continue Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 10 a.m., followed by Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Odilia Catholic Church, 3495 N. Victoria St., Shoreview, Minn. A luncheon will follow Mass.
Interment will be held Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, 7601 S 34th Ave., Minneapolis.
Bernice M. Dick (1926-2026)

Bernice Marie Dick, née Lucken, passed away on Saturday. She was 100.
Dick was born on April 19, 1926 in Rhinelander, Wisc. She attended Murray High School in St. Paul and worked at Lake Owasso Children’s Home, retiring in 1986. She was a devoted wife and mother, dedicating her life to her family and God.
Dick was preceded in death by her former husband Charles, parents Jon and Margaret Lucken and grandson Nathanial. She is survived by her sons Ken (Joanne) and Ron (Sheryl), daughter Bev (Richard), grandchildren Tommy, Brian, Joel, Jeremy, Kari, Taylor, Bradley and Katie and great-grandchildren Clara, Alayna, Davin, Aaron, Taryn, James, Jon and JJ.
Memorial service 1 p.m. Thursday, May 21 at Lyngblomsten Care Center Chapel, 1415 Almond Ave., St. Paul with visitation starting at 12:30 p.m. Private Interment Elmhurst Cemetery.
