A list of local resources supporting immigrants and other community members in response to heightened Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity in Roseville and beyond

By Roseville Reporter Staff

Though the federal government declared Operation Metro Surge over in February, immigrant communities in Roseville and beyond are still feeling the effects of ICE operations and are still at risk of being detained and deported.

ICE detained seven men in Bemidji, Minn. on July 20, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune, and community initiatives like iceout.org are still reporting ICE presence in the Twin Cities suburbs.

The Roseville Reporter has put together a list of local resources to help you access what’s necessary or get involved in supporting your neighbors. This is an evolving list, so bookmark this article to stay tuned for updated resources and information. Click the link attached to each resource to learn more.

Shamieh Law ICE Response Guide

  • Shamieh Law of Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas has put together a comprehensive and easy-to-understand guide on what to do if ICE visits your home or community. Here are key points, but please review the entire guide for more information.
    • If ICE stops you on the street, ask if you are being detained or are free to leave. If an agent says you’re free to leave, you may.
    • You can refuse entry to your home if ICE does not have a proper judicial warrant. Do not open the door to receive a warrant. Instead, ask the agent to slide it under the door.
    • Make sure your loved ones are aware of ICE’s detainee locator search in the event of an arrest.
    • If your neighbor is being confronted or detained by ICE, you can legally observe and record the interaction from a safe distance. Make sure to voice specific details, such as how many agents are there, where you’re at and what agency they appear to be with. Contact the detainee’s family if possible and keep them informed of what’s happening.
