John Leroy Neslund (1930-2025)

John Leroy Neslund of Arden Hills, Minn. passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Dec. 5. He was 95.

Neslund was born on Nov. 16, 1930 on a farm in Apple River Township, Wisc. and grew up in Balsam Lake, Wisc., about an hour and fifteen minutes from the Twin Cities. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Innsbruck, Austria, during the Korean War. He had fond memories of teaching Sunday school during his service years there. He met his wife, Elvis, in Balsam Lake and they married in 1955.

Neslund was also a self-taught painter, sculptor, woodworker, pianist and organist, and was known for his handiness, being able to fix anything and make it better than it was before.

Neslund was preceded in death by his wife, Elvis, parents Hjalmar and Gertrude and siblings Albin (Doris), Glen (Ruth), Gordon (Ruby) and Evelyn (Ray) Bailey.

John is survived by daughters Carol (Ray Bayers) Billstrom and Barbara (Jeff) Ferguson, grandchildren Steve and Leah Billstrom, Jenna (Adam) Zamjahn, Kelli (Tiago) Martins, Michael (Courtney) Ferguson and Katelyn (Tucker) Lamski, great-grandchildren Gavin, Audrey and Griffin Zamjahn, Madelyn Gephart, Ariana Martins and Eliana Billstrom, sister-in-law Doris (Don) Olson and sister-in-law Ginny Sandstrom.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 16 from 11 a.m. to noon at Roselawn Cemetery Chapel, 803 W. Larpenteur Ave. in Roseville. The funeral service will follow the visitation at the same location, starting at noon.
