Roseville MNsure enrollees face sharp premium increases with federal subsidies set to expire

Roseville residents who purchase health insurance through MNsure, Minnesota’s Affordable Care Act marketplace, are bracing for steep increases in their premiums next year after Congress declined to renew federal subsidies that have kept monthly costs down.

For many, the change could be financially devastating. State Representative David Gottfried (40B), who has been tracking the issue closely, said his research shows that for a some 60-year-old couples in our area earning $85,000 a year, monthly premiums are projected to soar from $602 to $1,549 in 2026 — an over 150% increase.

Representative Gottfried warns, the rollback could lead to a spike in the number of uninsured Minnesotans, particularly those who rely on MNsure for coverage.

For now, families across the state are left in limbo, waiting to see if Congress will reconsider before the subsidies lapse.

“It feels like the rug is being pulled out from under us,” said one Roseville resident who requested anonymity for privacy reasons. “We did everything right— bought coverage, stayed insured— and now we’re being punished for it.”
