William E. Salverda (1936-2026)

William Salverda, Jr. passed away peacefully on his ninetieth birthday, May 18, 2026, at his son’s farm in Forest Lake, Minn.

Originally from Roseville, Salverda worked as a water well driller, first with his father, Bill, Sr., and later his own son Wesley, who is the fourth generation to own and operate Salverda Well Company. Salverda moved his family to their farm in Forest Lake in 1959.

Salverda loved animals on the farm and going to auctions. He enjoyed raising German Shepherds, buffalo, cattle, hogs, horses and crops.

Salverda was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Marlene, his parents William and Helen, sister Aileen Halverson, daughter Joy and sister-in-law Maureen Sullivan.

He is survived by his sons Wesley and Wayne, daughter Julie Cain (Jay), son-in-law Bill Feil III (Colleen), nieces, nephews, many relatives, friends and auction buddies who will miss him dearly.

Salverda will be laid to rest at Elmhurst Cemetery.

Suzanne M. Joyce (1953-2026)

Suzanne “Suzie” Joyce, née Milligan, of Blaine, Minn. passed away on May 19. She was 73.

Joyce was born on Jan. 3, 1953, in St. Paul, Minn. to Howard and Lillian Milligan. She lived a life rooted in service to her family and friends.

Joyce was a kind and empathetic person who strove to make everyone feel welcome in her presence. She enjoyed working as a teacher’s aid for many years where she used her gifts of patience and kindness to help students with disabilities. She will be remembered for her bright smile, cheerful laughter, kindness and the love she spread to all she met.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Pat, daughters Shannon Joyce and Autumn (Kate) Offerdahl-Joyce, grandchild Lillian, three brothers, four sisters, 15 nieces and nephews and many beloved great-nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Suzie’s name to the MN Hope Chest for Breast Cancer Foundation.

Julene M. Hartfiel (1940-2026)

Julene Hartfiel, née Johnson, of St. Paul passed away on Thursday. She was 85.

Hartfiel was born to John M. and Louise Johnson on July 6, 1940 in Mapleton, Minn., about 20 minutes south of Mankato, Minn. After graduating from high school, she moved to St. Paul to work for an insurance company. She met Kenneth Hartfiel on a blind date, and they later married and created a loving family.

Hartfiel enjoyed luncheons with her friends from church, trips to the casino, working at the thrift store, reading and completing the crossword puzzles in the daily newspaper. She also enjoyed hosting the family for holidays and birthdays.

Hartfiel was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth, sisters June (Ed) Bruley and Dorothy (Arden) Asleson, brothers Kenneth, Donald (Sally) and Martin Johnson, son-in-law John Kelch, in-laws Laverne (Robert) Dodd and Fred (Pat) Hartfiel and nieces Brenda Johnson and Suzanne Dodd.

She is survived by her beloved children Barbara, Steven (Peggy) and Sheryl, grandchildren Tiana, Eric (Breanna), Samantha (Brian) Panek and Andrew, great-grandchildren Nora-Belle, Ezra, Elijah, Emmalyn and Theodore, sister-in-law Mary Johnson and many nieces, nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to any of the following organizations: Our Lady of Peace Hospice, Alzheimer’s Foundation, or the American Cancer Society.

Private internment at Elmhurst Cemetery.
