On Monday, Jan. 12, the Roseville City Council will take up the issues around ICE in our community.

Councilman Matt Bauer has requested that the Council discuss the City’s rights and stand regarding ICE’s use of public land, City staff and resources.

The Council packet includes a previously written response from the City attorney as well as a copy of the current Roseville Police policies on this issue.

The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at Roseville City Hall. This item appears on the agenda at approximately 8 p.m.

Residents may provide public comment at the meeting or by email. The meeting will also be aired live on NineNorth.

Upstander training draws many, prepares community

On Saturday morning, about 1,000 people gathered at Roseville Lutheran Church to learn how to assist and protect their neighbors from ICE agents currently acting across the metro, including here in Roseville.

The training was sponsored by Monarca, which provides constitutional “upstander” training across Minnesota. As defined by Monarca, an upstander is someone who acts “in support of an individual or
cause, particularly someone who intervenes on behalf of a person being harassed, attacked or
bullied” as opposed to a “bystander” who bears witness but takes no action.

Monarca trains citizens to be legal witnesses and share legal rights information to immigrants, people of color, ethnic minorities, LGBTQ+ individuals and others who are being targeted by federal agents.
