Do Good Roseville shared an update via email on Thursday on its efforts to cover rent payments for Roseville families impacted by ICE. Though efforts successfully covered February rent, the organization anticipates prolonged housing instability in the wake of Operation Metro Surge.

According to co-founder and lead organizer Kathy Ramundt, the Roseville Housing Stability Fund helped more than 132 families stay housed, and support from more than 500 donors helped pay $210,650 in rent.

A trio of Roseville organizations have been collecting donations: the Roseville Area Schools Foundation, St. Michael’s Lutheran Church and Roseville Lutheran Church.

At the same time, Ramundt wrote, “We are now seeing that housing instability may continue through the remainder of the school year. We urgently need continued community support to help families with March rent and other essential expenses.”

Ramundt added, “We are following the adage: How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.
If you are in a place where you can make a donation, any amount large or small will help us address this shortage.”

On March 3, current Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem testified that roughly 650 federal immigration agents remain in Minnesota, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune. The Sahan Journal reported on Feb. 19 that ICE operations have expanded into the Twin Cities suburbs despite the announcement of enforcement draw-down.
